Litchi is an app that you can download on to your IOS or Android tablet to fly your DJI Inspire, Phantom or Mavic.
However when you look on the ITunes app directory there are a number of panic reviews, “it can crash your drone” So inevitably the first question I am asked by my students is. Can I rely on the Litchi app, is it stable.
The clear answer in our experience is you can rely on the Litchi app as much as you rely on the DJI Go App. It is very stable.
We have used the Litchi app for 16 months and now much prefer it to the DJI Go and GO 4 apps, using it for over 80% of our flying.
The negative reviews seem to blame Litchi for a crash or near crash, when pilot error seems more likely reason.
We use it regularly with our Inspire 1, Phantom 3 Pro and Phantom 4 Pro without any issues or problems.
Litchi is the go to alternative to the DJI Go and DJI Go4 app, as it offers a range of intelligent flight modes (automated flying) that is a lot more sophisticated than the DJI Go app.
The Litchi Mission Hub sits in the cloud and allows you to program your flight path in Google Earth on your Mac/PC before you even leave home. The missions you save on the Hub are synched across all you devices. When you arrive on site, just load the pre-programmed mission and hit Start.
The Litchi app offers five autonomous flying modes, four of which are aimed at video, Waypoint, Orbit, Track Focus and one a still images – Pano.
Waypoints
Waypoints is the most intuitive and powerful flying mode. It allows you to program the drone to focus and set points of interest, camera pitches and bearings for each waypoint and carrying out pre-programmed actions at each one.
For example, you can tell Litchi to fly an irregular-shaped flight path while focusing on various points while interpolating the change of camera angle between points. This all happens in a very smooth fashion.
The mission waypoints can be created on the Hub or when you get to site, or a combination of the two.
We will feature the other four flying mode in more detail in our next post.
The price for all this sophistication and power is $22.99 for the Litchi App.
Litchi also offers three additional complimentary free and paid apps.
