New Mapping Equity Raise for DroneDeploy
DroneDeploy the mapping software company based in San Francisco raised $20 million in in August 2016 to grow their drone data management platform.This coincides with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration new rules governing commercial and industrial drone use.
The new rules announced by the FAA in June this year, have the potential to open the doors to drone-based services within different industries in the U.S.
The new U.S. rules related to drones at work, legally, as long as the drones weigh 55 pounds or less.
DroneDeploy, has a cocktail of venture capital investors with the total capital raised to date standing at $31 million.
DroneDeploy’s technology for mapping drones is already used in 130 countries in most industries, mapping more than 5 million acres of land to date and they plan to use the funding for recruitment, product development, sales and marketing.
DroneDeploy 2D & 3D Mapping Software
The DroneDeploy software is cloud based and allows users to plan flights, fly and collect flight data using the app on an Android IOS to control the drone, finally creating a detailed high-resolution 3D map with survey-level accuracy.The information can be stored and shared with clients via the cloud.
The Dronedeploy platform work seamlessly with DJI drones, allowing users to produce 2D maps and 3D models very quickly. These include 2D orthomosaics, terrain topographical models, NDVI analysis, 3D mapping and point clouds.
DroneDeploy was first know in agriculture using drones to survey arable land, and monitor crop health; but now has expanded rapidly with the use of the venture capital funding into all aspects of construction, mining, commercial inspection and surveying.
According to their CEO Mike Winn:
“DroneDeploy’s software can enable anyone from the smallest business to the largest corporation in the world to get commercial value out of drones. We’ve seen the model succeed where you have a free product for individuals and small business owners, but can say to large, commercial companies who use this here is an enterprise version, if you pay us more you will get more,”
